Civic Engagement Workshop for Youth
Tuesday July 20, 2010
6:00pm to 9:00pm
Civic engagement can be defined as acting on a sense of responsibility to one?s
community. Through civic engagement, individuals – as citizens of their communities, their nations, and the world ? are empowered as agents of social positive change. Civic engagement involves being informed on social issues; participating actively in public life and community work; taking on leadership and membership roles in community organizations; developing ethics, values and a sense of social responsibility; and promoting social justice locally and globally. Examples of civic engagement include attending a local town hall forum, conducting advocacy, contacting your local councillor about a community issue, voting, and much more!
Come to this workshop to learn more about what youth groups in Toronto are doing, and how you too can become more civically engaged and help make change in your community. Participants will receive resource materials and snacks. (Definition: Coalition for Civic Engagement and Leadership)
